Blue Lagoon Day
A day of relaxation....and too much sun.
The advantage of staying right at the Blue Lagoon hotel is access to a private guests-only pool, and there aren't many guests. The access is from 8-10 at night and 9-11 in the morning. So we were in on Wednesday night, Thursday morning and Thursday night. There are also blown up inner tubes and noodles, so you relax into them and slowly drift around the pool. Unlike the pool at Myvatn, which had a bottom of fine lava ash, the bottom of this pool is white silica. And at the pool there was a big bucket of pure silica stuff to rub onto yourself. It had the consistency of Crisco, with a bit of grit.
The afternoon treatments were greepat but also caused the sun problem - Ken's the worst but me not far behind. The treatments are done in the spa pool - totally unshaded and the sun was blazing for our two hour treatments. Fortunately for me, the algae wrap that followed my salt glow involved having my face covered so while I am burned, its not as bad as Lobster Man, whose photo appears below. We all had massages too. I will say that until you have been gently floating around a lagoon, covered in algae wrap and cocooned in a plastic bag, with you face covered, you have not lived.
We are all now sitting at the airport with the Sugarmans heading off to Paris and us to Oxford via Heathrow. Sunburn shouldn't be an issue for us in England since the forecast for our two days there is rain rain rain. Iceland has been a great adventure and we all agreed that we would return in a heartbeat.
Signing off from Iceland.
