Morning, Saturday July 7

We are heading out to Lake Myvatn today and should be seeing lots of waterfalls, volcanos, bubbling mud, etc.

Yesterday was lots of fun. The highlight was our after dinner drive from Saudarkrokur to Siglufjordur. The drive starts out through a huge valley at the base of the fjord. And then it turns into a drive through mountains with ineffectual yellow posts every 50 meters or so to protect you from the sheer cliff down to the Greenland Sea. But Siglufjorur was worth it as you can see from the photos. Clearly a prosperous community which seems to have an artiste community. There was a music festival going on and lots of visitors camping. Mountains on three sides of the town and lots of evidence of rock falls and avalanche risk. Very trendy new buildings aat the harbour including one which we all agreed would be the ideal Starbucks location should they choose to come to Iceland's northernmost point of mainland. Ken and James had (appropriately) Viking beer.

When we got home at around 11:00 we went into the hot tub and a dent was put into the duty free scotch.

The Hotel Tindasoll where we stayed is the oldest hotel in Iceland. It is also the Hotel With The Thinnest Walls in Iceland. So when James' and Sarah's neighbour snored, it was as though the snorer was in their room and you could certainly hear every snore, cough or movement from everyone in the hotel. However, this proved to be a huge advantage since there was no need to email each other in the morning to see if we were up and about since it was patently obvious to all.

Sadly, no fish oil on offer at breakfast this morning. But we are all getting used to shots of Skyr (yogurt) every morning. We have not yet eaten the sheep's head that we see frozen in all the grocery stores but who knows - today is a new day! Also, still no foal consumed. I am a bit disappointed in Ken and James.

More soon.
PS to Mark: we all hate this blog interface.

Nobody took a photo of a hairpin turn? Who drove it? Wordpress is an alternate blog platform and it can be converted...
