Underground bakery, bread and Cowshed
After visiting the boiling mud pots at Hverir this afternoon, and after much searching, we came across the underground bakery. Local bakers use underground potholes /steamy ovens to make steamed "geyser bread". It's a rich, sticky, caramelized rye bread. We sampled some later at the Cowshed Cafe (photos below of the geyser bread, geyser bread ice cream (yummier than it sounds!), and the cows in the attached barn. We had a very decent meal of local food including arctic char, duck egg omelet, smoked fish and skyr.
After dinner we relaxed in the geyser-fed Jarobodin hot spring mineral pool, which should have cured anything that ailed us. No photos of that unfortunately as we were afraid to get our cameras and phones wet!
