Northern lights - Susan report
Yesterday was rainy and miserable. We drove through a scenic route north of our hotel but were basically driving through a fog so saw little. However, because some of the road was gravel, we managed to get the car filthy. When we arrived at our ultimate destination, recommended by our guide Marcus from the volcano, the road was marked "impassable" and chainedshut which we took as a hint not to drive down. Then on to a small town where we found "hot springs bread" akin to geyser bread which was a big treat. Then to Reykjavik for a hot dog at the famous stand where Bill Clinton got his hot dog on his visit and then on to view an exhibition on a Viking house discovered in the middle of Reykjavik during construction, Icelandic fish and Chips for dinner and on to the Blue Lagoon where we luxuriated for two hours under dark, but slowly clearing skies. Beautiful near-full moon.
Did we see the northern lights? Yes!! Not great, a small flickering display on the horizon, but they were there and we saw them!
Today we will hang in the lagoon this morning and then check out. Coming home tonight! See you soon.
